We have a 16 yr. old, why must I go through a driving school?

The driving age in NJ is 17. NJ allows a 16-year-old student driver to drive with supervision only after receiving a minimum of 6 hours of behind-the-wheel instruction with a NJ state-certified driving school.

Do your cars have dual controls?

Yes. All Primo Driving School vehicles have a dual brake system. This is required by the state of NJ.

My child hasn't taken the high school driver education class and hasn't taken the written knowledge test. What do we do?

Every new driver must pass the NJ Permit Test, but the high school course is not required for a learners permit. You can schedule a time to take the test in our office.

How long is the wait to get on the road and start training with Primo?

Average wait time is about two weeks. Schedule in advance and complete your paperwork promptly so we can begin your 6-hour training as soon as possible.

What is the process for scheduling the NJ Road Test?

Primo schedules the road test appointment when the permit is issued. The exam date is on the back of the NJ learners permit.

Can I use a backup camera and parking sensors on my NJ Road Test?

Yes. You're allowed to use these tools if your vehicle has them.

Yes. We're happy to schedule the time and use our vehicle for the test. Many clients also request a refresher lesson as part of the service.

Are six hours of driving instruction enough for my child?

The 6 hours mandated by NJ is the minimum to be eligible for a learners permit. For many students it isn't enough — we'll tell you honestly if your teen needs more time.

Do I still need to take the NJ permit test if I'm older than age 16?

Yes. Every new driver in NJ must pass the MVC written knowledge test. Under 21 must also complete the GDL program.

Can I use MY car for a road test?

Yes, with one stipulation: you must have an emergency brake accessible in the middle of the front seats if your vehicle has a full center console.
